Haunted Mansion Attic Scene

Hey Disney Vacationers! A new permit filed by Disney suggests updates may be on the way for the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, and if history tells us anything, this could be more than just routine maintenance. While Disney hasn’t made an official announcement, the permit hints at potential changes to the attic scene—similar to recent updates at Disneyland. Here’s what we know so far a potential updated to the Haunted Mansion attic scene.

Disney Files Permit for Haunted Mansion Updates at Magic Kingdom

On February 17, 2025, Disney filed a Notice of Commencement for work on the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The project is being overseen by Facilities Asset Management (FAM), with MLC Theming, Inc. listed as the contractor. The permit is valid through October 31, 2025, and is classified under “general construction.”

Now, here’s the interesting part—MLC Theming specializes in scenic painting, facades, and themed construction, not just backstage infrastructure or ride system repairs. That strongly suggests this project is about enhancing the ride’s show elements.

Could Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion Get the Disneyland Treatment?

At Disneyland, the Haunted Mansion recently received a major upgrade to its attic scene.

  • The bride character was updated with a more sophisticated effect.
  • A floating illusion now makes the bride appear to move in a ghostly manner.
  • A physical candelabra she holds materializes in different parts of the ride, implying she’s roaming the Mansion.
  • The classic beating heart effect, a nod to the original attraction, was restored.

These changes improved the storytelling, special effects, and overall guest experience. Could Disney World’s Haunted Mansion be getting the same treatment? It’s possible.

What This Means for Haunted Mansion Fans

Right now, there’s no confirmed refurbishment or closure announced for Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion. However, Disney has proven before that it can make big updates without shutting down the ride completely—just look at how they added the Hatbox Ghost while keeping the attraction open.

If the attic scene is being updated, fans might see:

  • A new animatronic or enhanced projection effects
  • A floating bride effect similar to Disneyland’s version
  • Other updates to the attic scene to improve storytelling

While we don’t know exactly what’s coming, one thing is clear—Disney doesn’t file permits like this without a reason.

Stay Tuned for More Haunted Mansion Updates

Until Disney makes an official announcement, this is all speculation—but exciting speculation. If changes are coming, we could see an updated Haunted Mansion attic scene debut sometime before the permit expires in late 2025.
