Hey Disney Vacationers! Big news for EPCOT visitors—Disney has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will officially transition to a standby queue on February 25, 2025. This means guests will no longer need to secure a Virtual Queue spot to ride the popular attraction. Here’s everything we know about the Guardians of the Galaxy standby line.
What’s Changing?
Since its grand opening in May 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has operated with a Virtual Queue system. Guests had to use the My Disney Experience app to join a boarding group, hoping for a chance to experience one of Disney’s most innovative roller coasters. But starting February 25, the ride will function like a traditional attraction with a standard standby line.
For guests who prefer to skip the wait, the Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly called Individual Lightning Lane) will still be available for purchase. Additionally, during Extended Evening Hours, guests can use the regular standby line to ride.
Additionally, according to Scott Gustin Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be part of Early Entry.
Why Is Disney Making This Change?
This update follows a pattern seen with other major Disney attractions. In September 2024, TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom also moved from Virtual Queue to standby. Disney often uses Virtual Queues to manage crowds for new rides before eventually shifting to a traditional queue system. The change suggests that Cosmic Rewind is now at a point where it can handle wait times more efficiently without requiring the Virtual Queue process.
What This Means for Guests
For those visiting EPCOT after February 25, 2025, here’s what you need to know:
- No more Virtual Queue – Guests can simply get in line and wait to ride.
- Lightning Lane Single Pass remains – If you want to skip the standby line, you can purchase Lightning Lane access.
- Extended Evening Hours option – Disney Resort guests eligible for Extended Evening Hours will be able to ride using the standby queue.
- Early Entry option – Disney Resort guests and select good neighbor hotels will be able to ride using the standby queue.
Plan Your Visit
With the move to a standby line, wait times may fluctuate, especially in the first few weeks after the change. Expect peak wait times in the morning and mid-day. To minimize your wait, consider riding early in the morning, later at night, or using the Lightning Lane option.
This shift makes Cosmic Rewind more accessible to all guests, eliminating the need to compete for Virtual Queue slots at 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. If you’ve been waiting to ride without the stress of securing a boarding group, February 25, 2025, is your time!
