Hey Disney Vacationers! Nestled near the Firehouse at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom lies a nostalgic gem: the Harmony Barber Shop. Picture-perfect in its vintage facade and adorned with a classic red-and-white striped pole, this quaint establishment is not just any ordinary barbershop—it’s a beloved haven where whimsy meets tradition, making it a must-visit for many Disney fans. Let’s talk about how to get your first haircut at Disney!
A Memorable Experience for All Ages
While it’s called Harmony Barber Shop, it’s not just for little boys. Boys and girls of all ages can get their hair cut by friendly state-licensed cosmetologists. Even adults can have their hair cut there for an affordable price and a memorable experience.
Entering the Harmony Barber Shop feels like being transported to a bygone era. The interior features classic barber chairs and vintage decor that harkens back to the turn of the 1900s in a small town in middle America. Inside, you will find a quaint shop with large leather chairs, striped wallpaper, rich stained wood features, and vintage-looking photos. The charm is absolutely delightful.
The Atmosphere
The cosmetologists are dressed up in old-timey costumes that go perfectly with the barbershop feel. Their long plaid skirts, beige blouses, and ties feel so vintage. There are only three seats available, so it’s not crowded or loaded with kids playing on tablets or watching TVs. There is no sensory overload, making it a calm and inviting space for children and adults alike.
The Haircut Process
Haircuts are performed quickly without washing the hair. First, the hair is brushed and may be sprayed with water, but there are no hair washing stations. Considering that, it’s best to arrive with clean, dry hair. Then, the hair is trimmed or cut per your request.
Your baby’s first haircut is a very special occasion! Not only is the barbershop an extra cute setting for the haircut, but they created a package to make it extra special. Disney does that—they sprinkle pixie dust all over something simple and turn it into something very special. The “My First Haircut” package includes commemorative Mickey Ears and a certificate documenting the occasion.
Practical Details
Theme park entry tickets are required to access the Harmony Barber Shop. Prices start at about $8, plus tip, for an adult beard trim and go up to about $30 for the first haircut package. Reservations are strongly recommended. Of course, you can always try for a walk-in appointment. There are a few walk-in appointments available every day. However, you would also need some flexibility in your schedule for that. You can make reservations via the Harmony Barber Shop page and it will show up in your My Disney Experience.
No-shows and cancellations within one day of your reservation will incur a $10 charge. This will be applied to your room reservation or credit card, provided at the time of reservation.
Operating hours for the Barber Shop differ from the rest of Magic Kingdom, typically opening at about 10:00 a.m. and closing at about 5:00 p.m.
