RUMOR: Could a Simpsons Land at Disney Actually Happening?

Simpsons Land at Disney

Hey Disney Vacationers! The rumor mill is buzzing with speculation after reports surfaced about Disney surveying guests on new experiences tied to its franchises, including The Simpsons. Could this be a hint at a potential Simpsons Land at Disney? Let’s break down what we know, what it means, and where this rumored land could fit into Disney’s parks.

Disney’s Guest Surveys: A Simpsons Tease

Recently, Disney issued surveys asking guests about their interest in various franchises. These surveys specifically asked about The Simpsons and gauged interest in two exciting possibilities:

  1. Character Meet & Greets: Imagine hanging out with Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa in a Disney setting.
  2. New Lands or Attractions: A full-blown Simpsons-themed land or ride might be on Disney’s radar.

While these surveys aren’t guarantees, Disney often uses them to test the waters before committing to new projects.

Theme Park Rights: Disney vs. Universal

Here’s where things get tricky. Although Disney owns The Simpsons after acquiring 21st Century Fox in 2019, the theme park rights currently belong to Universal Parks & Resorts. Universal has long featured The Simpsons with attractions like The Simpsons Ride and immersive Springfield-themed areas in its parks.

Rumor has it that Universal’s licensing agreement for The Simpsons could expire in the coming years. If that happens, Disney would have the opportunity to integrate The Simpsons into its parks.

Additionally, there’s a buzz around Universal working on a replacement for the Simpsons Land within the Universal Studios park in Orlando. Whether Universal decides to extend the license agreement for the use of the Simpsons or not, is unknown. What is known, is no matter what The Simpsons Ride is due for an upgrade.

Other Franchises on Disney’s Radar

The survey didn’t just focus on The Simpsons. Disney also asked guests about other popular franchises like Pixar’s Cars and Disney Villains. These surveys hinted at new experiences, including:

  • Immersive Lands and Attractions
  • Character Meet & Greets
  • Merchandise and Social Media Content

Notably, Disney is already working on expansions like a Cars-themed land and a Villains-themed area at Magic Kingdom. Could The Simpsons be next in line?

What a Simpsons Land Could Look Like

If Disney were to create a Simpsons Land, the big question is: Where would it go?

In the United States

The most logical fit might be Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With its nod to pop culture and film, Hollywood Studios could house a Simpsons expansion, perhaps in the underutilized Animation Courtyard.

International Parks

Outside the U.S., the possibilities are less clear.

  • Japan: The Simpsons isn’t a massive draw in Japan.
  • China and Hong Kong: The Simpsons faced bans from 2006 to 2014 and enjoy more of a niche following over a broader appeal.
  • Disneyland Paris: With the recent expansion plans at Walt Disney Studios Park, it’s hard to see where a Simpsons Land would fit.

What This Means for Disney Fans

Disney is known for its careful planning and storytelling. While surveys alone don’t confirm a new project, they’re often the first step. A Simpsons Land at Disney would bring a fresh and fun layer to the parks, blending the franchise’s humor with Disney’s knack for immersive experiences.

Final Thoughts

For now, this remains a rumor, but the pieces are intriguing. If Universal’s rights to The Simpsons expire and Disney decides to move forward, we could see Homer and the gang popping up in Disney parks. Until then, we’ll keep an eye out for more hints from Disney.
