Hey Universal Vacationers! Universal Destinations & Experiences has officially revealed the themed lands coming to Universal Kids Resort, set to open in 2026 in Frisco, Texas. This brand-new theme park is designed specifically for families with young children and will feature immersive lands based on beloved characters from DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, and Illumination. Let’s look at the Universal Kids Resort lands!

Universal Kids Resort Lands
Universal Kids Resort will introduce guests to six vibrant lands inspired by fan-favorite franchises:
- Shrek’s Swamp – Step into Shrek’s world with a playground built by the green ogre himself. Kids can explore, stomp, and play in an interactive space that celebrates friendship, family, and fun.
- Bikini Bottom (SpongeBob SquarePants) – Join SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward for a day under the sea. Kids can earn their boating license, relax on a beach with floating bubbles, and soak up the nautical fun.
- Minion Land – Chaos takes over as Illumination’s Minions attempt to manage a peaceful vacation retreat. The result? Water-filled surprises and action-packed adventures for guests of all ages.
- Jurassic World – Budding paleontologists can experience dinosaurs up close in a land designed for young explorers. The interactive environment will offer thrilling and educational encounters.
- Trolls’ Music Festival – Join Poppy, Branch, and the Trolls for a glitter-filled, music-powered celebration. Expect colorful, joy-filled experiences that bring guests together in harmony.
- Puss in Boots’ Adventure – Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, and Perrito host a kitty adoption event, complete with fun rides, festive food, and a sensory garden for relaxation.
Interactive Play and Character Meet-and-Greets
The heart of Universal Kids Resort will feature open spaces for kids and families to rest, play, and meet characters like Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse. The resort will also offer themed food, beverages, and character merchandise for guests to enjoy.
“At each point, we considered how we could design a place especially for kids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends,” said Sarah Gibbon, VP & Executive Producer, Universal Creative. “They’ll be able to do all this while being fully immersed in some of their favorite stories – ones full of curiosity, laughter and joy.”

Family-Friendly On-Site Hotel
The resort will include a 300-room hotel designed for families, offering a colorful and immersive stay. The hotel will serve as the main entrance to Universal Kids Resort, making it easy for guests to wake up and step straight into the fun.
Universal’s Expansion Strategy
Universal Kids Resort in Frisco marks the first-ever theme park designed exclusively for families with young children. This project is part of Universal Destinations & Experiences’ broader strategy to expand into new markets with innovative concepts. Other upcoming projects include Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, set to open in August 2025, and early development work on a Universal park in the United Kingdom.
“As Universal Kids Resort continues to take shape, we are excited to bring families an entirely new way to experience the magic of Universal’s storytelling,” said Dan Cuffe, Vice President and General Manager of Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas. “From highly engaging attractions to interactive shows and themed dining, this resort will deliver fun, laughter, and memories for families with young children.”
Final Thoughts
Universal Kids Resort will be a game-changer for families seeking an immersive, child-friendly theme park experience. With beloved characters, interactive play areas, and family-focused attractions, this new resort is set to bring the magic of Universal to an entirely new audience when it opens in 2026.
