Pack for Disney World

If you’re heading to Walt Disney World, the excitement is real—but packing for your trip? That can be a little overwhelming. From Orlando’s unpredictable weather to planning for the parks, the last thing you want is to arrive unprepared. Trust me, we’ve been there! Whether it’s scorching summer days or chilly evenings in winter, nailing your packing list can make all the difference. Here’s your comprehensive guide on what to pack for Disney World, tailored for every season. No matter when you plan your getaway, this list will have you covered.

Year-Round Essentials

There are a few things you’ll need no matter when you visit Disney. Make sure these are on your list every time you pack:

  • Comfortable Shoes: You’ll walk 8-10 miles a day at Disney. Sneakers or breathable walking shoes are your best bet.
  • Water Bottle: Hydration is key, especially in the Florida heat. Grab a refillable water bottle so you can fill up at stations throughout the parks.
  • Sunscreen: The Florida sun can be intense year-round, so don’t forget SPF! I recommend at least SPF 30.
  • Portable Phone Charger: Disney days are long, and your phone battery won’t last. Between taking photos, using Genie+ and mobile ordering, your phone will need a recharge. This portable charger has gotten us through long days at the parks!
  • Rain Poncho or Compact Umbrella: Florida is known for surprise rain showers, so pack a lightweight poncho or umbrella you can easily stow in your bag.
  • Backpack or Fanny Pack: A small, comfortable bag is essential for carrying your daily park necessities.
  • Anti-Chafe Stick: With the amount of walking you do in the parks, your thighs fall victim to the risk of thigh rubbing/chafing. Here is our recommended product that has always worked for us!

What to Pack for Disney World in Winter (December – February

Orlando winters are pretty mild, but mornings and evenings can get chilly. Days are typically in the mid-60s to low-70s, with nighttime temperatures dipping into the 40s. Here’s what you need for a winter trip to Disney:

  • Light Jacket or Sweater: You’ll need something to layer for those early morning rope drops and nighttime shows.
  • Long Pants: While shorts are usually fine during the day, pack a pair of jeans or leggings for cooler temps after sunset.
  • Closed-Toe Shoes: In case of colder days, you might want sneakers or casual shoes that keep your feet warm.
  • Scarves, Beanies, and Gloves: You might be surprised, but Florida can feel cold, especially if the wind picks up. Pack light winter accessories just in case.

The biggest advice we can give is to be prepared to layer! It’s better to be prepared for cooler weather than having to buy more merch than you anticipated!

Pro Tip: January is one of the least crowded times to visit, but pack extra patience around the holidays (Christmas to New Year’s) as parks are packed!

Spring (March – May)

Springtime in Orlando is lovely, with temps ranging from the low 60s in the morning to the mid-80s by afternoon. It’s one of the best times to visit Disney World, but you’ll need to pack smart to stay comfortable throughout the day.

  • Light Layers: Pack t-shirts and tank tops for the day, but have a light hoodie or long-sleeve shirt for cooler evenings.
  • Capris or Shorts: Spring days can get warm quickly, so lighter bottoms will keep you comfortable.
  • Rain Jacket: Spring showers are common, so a packable rain jacket is a must.
  • Sunglasses & Hat: Keep the sun off your face with sunglasses and a baseball cap or sunhat.

Pro Tip: Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival kicks off in March, so you’ll want to pack extra camera batteries or portable phone chargers for all the stunning topiaries and gardens!

Summer (June – August)

Ah, summer in Orlando—hot, humid, and prone to daily thunderstorms. But don’t let that scare you! With the right packing strategy, you can stay cool and comfortable at Disney, even in the peak summer heat.

  • Moisture-Wicking Clothing: Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or athletic wear will help you stay cool. Stick with light-colored clothing that reflects the sun.
  • Extra Socks & Undergarments: You’ll sweat. A lot. It’s a good idea to pack extra socks and underwear to change into mid-day. Especially if you decide a water ride is needed to cool you off!
  • Sunscreen & Aloe Vera Gel: Sunscreen is a must, but after-sun aloe gel will help soothe any burns.
  • Cooling Towels: These are lifesavers in the heat. Get them wet, snap them, and they stay cool for hours. Here is a four pack for your family!
  • Flip-Flops: While not ideal for walking all day, these are perfect for wearing during water rides like Kali River Rapids or when it’s raining.
  • Portable Fan: Some ride queues can be a bit stuffy and it’s saved us a time or two having a portable fan to help circulate some air! This is Stepher’s tried and true theme park fan

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to pack an insulated water bottle to keep drinks cold all day. And yes, bring two ponchos—one for you, and one for your stroller or backpack if needed!

Fall (September – November)

Fall in Orlando is a mixed bag. September and October can feel like summer, but by November, you’ll enjoy milder, cooler temps in the 60s and 70s. Halloween is a big deal at Disney, so here’s what to pack for this transitional season:

  • Light Layers: Similar to spring, you’ll want t-shirts and tanks for the daytime and a sweater for the evenings.
  • Breathable Pants or Shorts: September can still be hot, so stick with light, airy bottoms.
  • Poncho: Florida rain is still in full swing during early fall, so don’t skip the rain gear.
  • Comfortable Shoes for Walking & Standing: You’ll be doing a lot of both!
  • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Costume: If you’re attending the Halloween party, bring a lightweight costume that you can wear comfortably all day in the parks.

Pro Tip: October and November are prime times to experience Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival. Loose clothing is your friend—you’ll want to make room for all the amazing food!

Miscellaneous Packing Tips for Disney World

No matter when you visit Disney, here are a few extra things to keep in mind:

  • Medications: Always have a small first-aid kit with band-aids, blister protection, pain relievers, and any prescriptions you need.
  • Stroller (If Traveling with Kids): Disney rentals are available, but they can be expensive. If you’re staying for a while, consider bringing your own lightweight stroller. Or look to rent a stroller from outside vendor.
  • Portable Fans: Especially in the summer months, these will keep you and your kiddos cool while waiting in lines.
  • Reusable Shopping Bag: Perfect for carrying souvenirs or extra snacks.
  • MagicBands: If you have them, don’t forget your MagicBands! They make accessing the parks and your hotel a breeze.

Packing for Walt Disney World is all about being prepared for unpredictable weather and long days. From must-have items like sunscreen and comfy shoes to season-specific necessities like cooling towels or light jackets, this guide should have you feeling ready to conquer the parks. The best part? With the right gear, you can focus on enjoying the magic, not stressing over what you forgot.

So pack smart, plan ahead, and get ready to make magical memories at Walt Disney World—no matter the time of year!
