What You Need to Get Started
Before you embark on your journey through the cosmos or the grid, there are a few essential items you’ll need:
1. The My Disney Experience App: This app will become your trusty companion throughout the day. If you don’t have it already, download it from your app store. For more on My Disney Experience, Click Here.
2. Updated Family & Friends List on the My Disney Experience App: Make sure everyone in your group is listed on your Family & Friends list within the app.
3. Valid Park Admission: You’ll need valid park admission to EPCOT for Guardians of the Galaxy or Magic Kingdom for TRON.
4. A Park Pass: Ensure you have a Park Pass reservation for the specific park you plan to visit on that day. If you’re eyeing TRON at Magic Kingdom but have a reservation for another park, don’t worry; you can still make it work with a Park Hopper ticket or Annual Pass.
Note: For a Boarding Group, securing a Park Pass is crucial. Don’t count on reservations being available when Park Hopping kicks in at 2 p.m. Starting January 9, 2024, park pass reservations for date-based tickets will no longer be used.
Getting a Group – The Winning Strategy
Now, let’s talk strategy. Securing a boarding group is a race against time and fellow Disney vacationers, but you can do it with these steps:
1. Open the My Disney Experience App: Locate the hamburger button (the 3 lines) in the bottom right corner and tap on it. Then, select “Virtual Queues.”
2. Join the Virtual Queue: Click “Join Virtual Queue.” If Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t immediately available, don’t panic; you can still confirm your party so that you’re all set when the queue opens. Keep in mind that just before 7 a.m. or 1 p.m. (or 6 p.m.), the “Join Virtual Queue” button may turn into a “Refresh” button. Be ready to tap it like your life depends on it when it becomes active again.
3. Be Persistent: Some people debate whether to use park Wi-Fi or cellular service. The truth is, both can work, but what’s crucial is having multiple people in your group trying for a boarding group simultaneously. If you’re touring with a group of four, have each person give it a shot. Teamwork can significantly increase your odds of success.
4. Stay Informed: Once you’ve secured a boarding group, don’t forget about it. The allocated time may shift throughout the day, either forward or backward from the original estimate. Having a boarding group is not the same as having a reservation; there’s a chance your group might not even get called if it’s a high number.
In the world of Disney magic, securing a TRON or Guardians boarding group is a thrilling adventure in itself. Armed with the My Disney Experience App, a Park Pass, and a bit of patience, you’ll be well on your way to experiencing these incredible attractions. So, gear up, click, refresh, and may the Disney force be with you!
